Learning to behave positively with kindness

The Bay Academy is a Positive Behaviour for Learning (PB4L) school. For more information on this initiative we point you to the following resource https://www.pbisworld.com/. We have embedded the philosophy of PB4L into the International Baccalaureate's Learner Profile, the 10 key attributes of a global citizen.

Our overriding values are  Manaakitanga - Kotahitanga - Kaitiakitanga - Māramatanga

All teaching of expected behaviours and interventions are designed to build and/or enhance these 4 values for everyone in our school community. The Ko Wai Au image below identifies expected behaviours at our school.

Achieving a vision of a peaceful and inclusive world, and supporting wellbeing for happiness, is behind both the PB4L initiative and the mindfulness programme running at our school.

We are sharing below the following relevant documents relating to our behaviour approach and responses. These include;

IT ALL STARTS WITH PRAISE - Ko te mea nui te kōrero whakapiki

Ko wai au slips are handed out by staff when they notice students displaying the expected behaviours and values at our school.

This praise based approach is backed by research and shines a light on expected (taught and inherited), rather than negative, behaviours.

KO WAI AU - WHO I AM?

Tier one refers to day to day responses that might be required to support children to make better behavioural decisions.
